Bio
Selena is a multi-talented artist based in Greensboro, NC, specializing in drawings, paintings, and mixed media. Her work explores the realms of realism and surrealism, aiming to provoke curiosity and introspection. Her sensitivity to body language and gesture serves as an intuitive language that shapes her creative process and connection to art.
Selena has supported the CAREs project for children with disabilities, attending their galas twice and selling two paintings to raise funds. Her work has also been featured in a juried show, where she sold a piece to Douglas Cason in October. While continually refining her artistic vision, Selena remains open to select commissions and collaborations that align with her clients’ visions.
Artist's Statement
My art delves into the intricate beauty and unapologetic strength of the human form, exploring the fluidity of gesture, the tension of movement, and the silent power in stillness. Being hard of hearing has heightened my sensitivity to visual storytelling, allowing me to capture the unspoken narratives of the body through painting, drawing, and mixed media. The nuances of body language and expression have become an intuitive language that profoundly influences my work.
Inspired by the powerful emotions of Renaissance art, still life, and the elegance of past artistic styles, my research and practice lie at the intersection of realism and surrealism. For me, light is not just a visual element but a character that dances across the canvas, transforming two-dimensional surfaces into stages of depth, emotion, and dimension. Shadows, meanwhile, whisper secrets waiting to be discovered, offering viewers a deeper connection to the pieces.
I am particularly fascinated by the female form and its capacity to convey confidence, sensuality, and strength. Through my art, I seek to embrace beauty and eroticism in a way that transcends convention, bridging the elegance of the past with contemporary themes while leaving traces of my journey for future audiences.
Ultimately, my art is about storytelling, connection, and engagement. I aim to draw viewers in, inviting them to discover hidden details within the shadows and engage with the playful nuances woven into my work. Art, for me, is a dialogue—an ongoing conversation between myself, the viewer, and the world.
